To our friends in the southern hemisphere\, however\, this marks the changing of their seasons to autumn. \nThe equinox does not always fall on the same day each year due to the fact that the earth orbits the sun on a slightly elliptical path\, meaning that the spring equinox can happen on either the 19th\, 20th or 21st of March. Although many cultures celebrate the whole day as the equinox\, the equinox is\, in fact\, technically the specific point in time when the sun crosses the equator. \nIn the northern hemisphere\, the March equinox is traditionally celebrated as a time of rebirth with many different cultures celebrating spring holidays and festivals such as Easter and Passover around the time of the equinox.

Some events aim to get the media attention and raise the meteorology’s profile. Also\, many prizes for meteorological study are announced or presented close or on World Meteorological Day. \nMany countries issue special postage stamp cancellation mark or postage stamps to celebrate this day. The stamps usually reflect the theme of the event or mark a nation’s meteorology achievements. \nThis year the World Meteorological Day theme\, The Future of Weather\, Climate and Water across Generations A new theme is always allocated to each and every different year for the World Meteorological Day. In 2007\, WMO held a photo competition on the theme of that year entitled Hotter\, drier\, wetter. Face the Future. SUMMARY:The Big Walk and Wheel 2024 - Previously The Big Pedal
DESCRIPTION:Sponsored by UK cycling charity Sustrans\, The Big Walk and Wheel – Previously known as The Big Pedal is the UK’s largest inter-school cycling and scooter-based challenge that aims to inspire and empower kids\, teachers and parents to get on two wheels in order to make the daily trek to school. The Big Walk and Wheel runs for ten school days each year\, and there are prizes galore in store for those who take part. \n\n\n\n\n\nSince Sustrans Big Pedal started in 2011 it has grown to be much more than a cycling competition. \nDuring the two-week challenge schools compete to record the greatest number of pupils walking\, using a wheelchair\, scooting and cycling to school\, whilst learning about the benefits of active travel along the way. \nTo acknowledge the multi-modal nature of the competition\, in 2021 we asked schools to help us find a new name for Sustrans Big Pedal. \nA name that includes walking\, using a wheelchair\, scooting and cycling to reflect its inclusive nature. \nParticipating schools submitted their suggestions and the shortlist was put to a public vote. \nThe clear winner was… \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSustrans Big Walk and Wheel!\nPlease put the 20 – 31st of  March in your diaries for Sustrans Big Walk and Wheel 2024. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Sustrans Big Walk and Wheel\nThe school challenge has now been running for 11 years. \nIt’s inspired hundreds of thousands of families to take active journeys to school. \nSince 2021\, we have taken a more flexible approach to the competition to accommodate pupils learning remotely and the results were amazing. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAmazing Journeys theme\nThis year we are again trying to make sure as many pupils as possible can take part. \nThat’s why we have designed our interactive school resources to be fun and flexible. \nOur Amazing Journeys theme will encourage pupils to see their local area from a new perspective whilst learning about the benefits of active travel. \nAnd active journeys taken from home or physical activity completed at home counted as one journey in the challenge for pupils learning remotely.

In fact\, millions of children across the globe will never see the Milky Way from their own homes. \nWe are only just beginning to understand the negative repercussions of losing this natural resource. A growing body of research suggests that the loss of the natural nighttime environment is causing serious harm to human health and the environment. \nFor nocturnal animals in particular\, the introduction of artificial light at night could very well be the most devastating change humans have made to their environment. DESCRIPTION:World Malaria Day is held each year on April 25th. This annual event is a worldwide effort\, to raise awareness of Malaria and funds for the treatment and prevention of malaria. The day works to highlight the need for better political intervention in malaria control and prevention. The day also marks the continuing great achievements in the fight against Malaria.\nLast year’s theme for World Malaria Day was ‘End Malaria for Good’ and the day is hosted by the World Health Organization. \nThe World Health Organization is putting prevention of malaria to the forefront in this event\, with the aim of reducing the massive global death toll of 400\,000 people to Malaria every year. Efforts to highlight prevention has been reducing the death toll\, especially through the use of insecticide and mosquito nets\, as mosquitos are the most common carriers and spreaders of Malaria. The continued campaign of prevention is proving effective and saving lives\, but there is still a long way to go. \nWorld Malaria Day and continued awareness and prevention\, as well as lobbying for better political support must continue and increase in order to eradicate the disease and prevent deaths from it. Investment and interest from governments is essential for this continued fight against Malaria and related deaths.
