Contextual Management: Tags
AdButler's Contextual Management Tags provide another way to analyze and use your website's contextual information, giving you more options on how you want to use that data aside from creating Segments.
For example, if you use Google Ad Manager (GAM) as your ad server, you can use a Contextual Management Tag or make a server side call to allow AdButler to analyze your website's traffic and give you the domains and keywords that best perform with your ads. You can then pass on that information to Google Ad Manager to increase the chances of getting relevant ads from third party networks.
Tags
A Tag is a unit that lets you organize your contextual data however you like. To analyze and gather your website's contextual data, you must create a Tag then either place its JavaScript snippet or make a server-side call and pass the URL as part of a request. Depending on your use case, you may need just one Tag, or one for each website you have.
The Tags table is an interactive list of all your Tags, ranked according to the total impressions that the ads under them have acquired, along with the best domains, categories and keywords for each Tag.
To access the Contextual Management Tags table, click Contextual Management on the left navigation menu, then click Tags at the top of the page.
The Tags table is an interactive list of all your Tags ranked according to the total impressions that they have acquired, along with the best domains, categories and keywords for each Tag.
Categories are based on IAB's Content Taxonomy and provide a broad view of the content on your site. Keywords on the other hand are the most common words or phrases that appear on your site's content.
Clicking on a Tag's name will take you to its dashboard.
The Tag dashboard
The Tag dashboard gives you an overview of a Tag's performance. By default, the graphs and charts show data from the past 14 days, but you can select a different period by clicking on it.
Similar to the main Tags table, the Tag dashboard also lists the best domains, categories and keywords for the Tag, along with the best URLs.
Clicking a domain name within the Tag dashboard table will take you to that domain's dashboard, which shows you the best performing URLs, keywords and categories for that domain.
How to use Tags
Click Contextual Management on the left navigation menu. The Contextual Management section will appear.
Click Tags. The Tags table will appear.
Click on a Tag's name on the table to go to its dashboard. If you have not yet created a Tag, click Add Tag to make a new Tag.
Click Get Tag on the upper right of the Tag's dashboard. A window with the Tag's JavaScript or JSON tag will appear.
For the JavaScript snippet, we recommend placing it at the top of the head tag on your page.
After you've placed the snippet or made a server side call, the Tag's dashboard will show you the most popular keywords, categories, and domains for that Tag. Depending on the number of pages on your site, the keyword and category data might lag a few minutes while we scan any pages that we have not previously scanned. The first time you request the contextual data for a page, we will just return empty arrays of keywords and categories and put the page in our scanning queue. Once the page has been scanned, future requests will return the contextual data.
