User DB

Targeting is an optional add-on to your AdButler subscription. For more information on adding add-ons, read How to change your subscription. Further, UserDB and Audiences are disabled by default. If you already have the Targeting add-on, please open a ticket from your AdButler dashboard and submit a request if you want us to enable them in your account.

AdButler already has a wide range of targeting options that you can each use on their own or use in any combination. However, if you have access to your customers' data, you should also consider creating Audiences.

An Audience is a set of targeting filters that look for your particular set of customers and other visitors with similar attributes, making it more likely to tailor and match ads to actual people. But before you can configure Audiences, you must first upload and configure customer data in the User DB section.

The User DB section lets you configure and update User DBs, and create or edit Audiences. However, in this section, Audiences are listed under their specific User DBs. Go to Targets > Audiences to view all Audiences in one list.

In this guide, you will learn:

  1. About Audience.
  2. How to configure a User DB.
  3. How to update a User DB
  4. How to create an Audience
  5. How to edit an Audience.

About Audiences

An Audience is a set of targeting filters based on a user database, or User DB for short. A User DB is a set of attributes based on actual user information.

User information can be one of six attribute types: text, number, phone number, email, date and time, or timestamp. This means you have a wide variety of user information that you can use for targeting.

Once you've uploaded and configured a User DB, you can create one or more Audiences out of it. You can then apply Audiences in your campaign and ad item assignments.

Uploading and configuring a User DB

  1. Go to User DB (Your AdButler > User DB).
  2. Click New User DB. The New User DB window will appear.
  3. Upload the CSV file that contains your customers' information.
The information in the CSV file must be properly categorized in columns and should have at least one unique identifier per user. AdButler will use those columns to detect and categorize the user information you upload.
  1. Name the attribute that will be associated with each column (the type of user information) and select its attribute type.
You can toggle a column's Import switch if you don't want to create targets out of that column.

  2. Enter a name for the user DB and select the column that holds the primary user identifier.
  3. Click Save User DB. It may take a few minutes for user data to be uploaded.

You can now create Audiences based on this User DB.
